Why Medicine?

RESOURCES FOR PRE- MEDS

AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges)

students-residents.aamc.org

SDN (student Doctor Network) http://www.studentdoctor.net

SDN is honestly one of the most important resources to me. There are what seems like unlimited message boards where pre-med students, med students, and doctors can post about various topics. Because of this, you can hear what many people (at many different stages in their career) have to say about a topic. Since there are so many postings on the website, you can usually find a whole message board devoted to answering a question that you have. The only thing to be wary about with this website is to make sure that you know how to sort out people that have no idea what they are talking about. Anyone can post on the message boards so a lot of bad advice or opinions can be mixed in with the good advice and opinions.

For those applying to allopathic medical school, the AAMC is your main resource for all pre-med, medical school, and residency information. Services such as the MSAR (the database for all US allopathic medical school information) and registration for the MCAT (along with MCAT tools) can also be found on their website.

AACOM (American Assosciation of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine): aacom.org

For those applying to osteopathic medical school, the AACOM website is going to be one of your biggest resources for information. However, the AAMC website will still provide plenty of important information such as MCAT and residency information since these apply equally to osteopathic students.
